Back More than 200 people came to IndustrySec 2022
More than 200 people participated in Gipuzkoa IndustrySec 2022
Representatives from the cybersecurity sector converged with agents from the Gipuzkoan industry
Gipuzkoa Industrysec 2022, the third edition of Gipuzkoa's leading cybersecurity conference, brought together more than 200 industry representatives who came to learn about the international vision of leading companies in cybersecurity and the local experience of various Gipuzkoan industrial companies in this field.
At the event, the Deputy for Economic Promotion, Tourism and Rural Affairs, Jabier Larrañaga, highlighted the commitment of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council to promoting cybersecurity in the territory. The deputy commented that Gipuzkoan companies "have gained in maturity" in terms of cybersecurity, but that "the rapid evolution of this field requires continuous innovation in the search for answers, being vigilant and raising awareness".
Following his speech, Koldo Peciña, director of ZIUR, highlighted the potential of the Gipuzkoan cybersecurity ecosystem and the collaborating role that the Gipuzkoan cybersecurity center is playing in Gipuzkoa to build a digital and cybersecure future. Regarding the congress, he stated that Industrysec 2022 "has reflected the consolidation of ZIUR as a reference ally of the industry in the territory to face the challenges derived from cybersecurity, and that they directly affect the competitiveness of the industrial fabric of Gipuzkoa", and that "The cybersecurity ecosystem has been represented throughout the entire event".
On the other hand, Eduardo Mastranza, an expert from the technology consulting firm Gartner, who was the one who opened the section dedicated to expert cybersecurity companies with the aim of publicizing the vision of future trends in the cybersecurity sector, was the most remarkable.
Among the trends exposed by Eduardo Mastranza, it is worth highlighting the importance of investing in the right tools to anticipate the expansion of the attack to the surface of the organization. Likewise, Gartner's senior executive partner pointed out, that business attack surfaces are expanding rapidly and, that the trend is, for them to continue to do so in parallel with technological development and the growth of hybrid work (face-to-face and telework), which will double in the next three years.
The Gartner expert also addressed the changes that are emerging in the cybersecurity sector in terms of managing it in the business environment: "new leadership roles in cybersecurity are emerging based on different business needs," he commented. For this reason, "we must decentralize decision-making to empower business leaders, other cybersecurity leaders and employees, so that they make informed risk decisions", recommended at the end of his presentation.
After Eduardo Mastranza's intervention, Daniela Kominsky from Cymulate, explained the advantages of Breach and Attack Simulation technology (BAS), to assess the cybersecurity situation of the organization in real time: "organizations invest millions in cybersecurity and, nevertheless, they would not be able to say what their degree of protection is at any given time”, he stated.
On the other hand, Guillaume Pillon from WALLIX spoke about how Zero Trust can address the risks and challenges facing the sector. Then, Adriel Regueira from Nozomi Network, and Carlos Tomás Moro from Enigmedia, recommended the IEC62443 standard as a point starting point to control the risk of the factories. David Barroso from CounterCraft, spoke about the importance of detection, "because 100% effective protection is impossible." And finally, Rodrigo Hernández from Multiverse Computing, explained about the benefits of quantum computing in cybersecurity, for example, for the generation of digital twins.
As for the round tables, both the academic and industrial, revolved around the idea launched by Koldo Peciña on the importance of investing in cybersecurity to remain competitive. At the academic colloquium, the need to attract talent to the sector was also discussed. In this regard, Koldo Peciña added that there are "problems in finding talent; there are no specialized cybersecurity studies, and that is why ZIUR works with universities and professional training centers to promote specialization in cybersecurity."
Likewise, at the industrial round table, Lazpiur and Industrias Electromecánicas (GH Cranes & Components) presented, together with Salva Trujillo from IKERLAN, the need that led them to go to ZIUR and IKERLAN to carry out a cybersecurity evaluation project in design of its industrial products. Mikel Kerejeta from Lazpiur, also commented on the importance of making the end user aware of cybersecurity: "you can make all kinds of investments in cybersecurity, but a user with a simple mouse click can throw all the protections" adopted to the ground, he added.
