ZIUR brings together the future of cybersecurity at ‘IndustrySec 2024’

Under the slogan ‘Protecting the future starts today’, the Foundation belonging to the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa will hold a conference on the 17th at the Aquarium that will showcase the latest advances in the sector

The future of cybersecurity will meet in Donostia on the 17th at the ‘IndustrySec 2024’ conference, organised by ZIUR, the Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Centre belonging to the Provincial Council. Under the slogan ‘Secure the future’, a panel of experts will debate and analyse at this conference, which is already fully booked, the latest advances in this field, the threats faced by companies and industry and the new challenges.

The industrial and cybersecurity sectors of the territory will meet at this meeting, which will have an international, state and local vision of trends in cybersecurity, local entrepreneurship success stories will be presented, the work of ZIUR will be shared and the experience of industrial companies that collaborate with this centre on various projects will be presented.

“Strengthening ourselves in the field of cybersecurity is a key factor both to ensure the competitiveness of our industrial fabric and to generate new opportunities, with high added value projects. We have been working for years through ZIUR, putting its technological infrastructure at the service of our industrial SMEs. Also with financial aid of 370,000 euros this year, which has allowed projects to be developed in 65 companies. And finally, generating and sharing knowledge”, said the Deputy for Economic Promotion and Strategic Projects, Ane Insausti. In this regard, he stressed that IndustrySec's main objective is precisely "for our companies to share learning and good practices to face this important challenge with guarantees."

The threats of AI and new regulations

One of the aspects that will be emphasized in 'IndustrySec 2024' will be the revolution that Artificial Intelligence is bringing to cybersecurity. In this sense, 60% of companies that are implementing AI have already suffered specific threats and it is estimated that losses from AI-related attacks will exceed 5.2 billion dollars by 2025.

"The year 2024 has been very marked by the increase in the use of AI, which has posed a new challenge for the cybersecurity of industrial companies in Gipuzkoa. This, together with the appearance of new mandatory European regulations, has required us to be with our industry on a daily basis, supporting and helping them with the aim of continuing to be competitive in the global arena," says the director of ZIUR, María Penilla. So much so that ZIUR has recently launched an AI-based Virtual Assistant on its website to respond effectively and immediately 24 hours a day to the doubts that the industry has about the NIS2 regulations.

More than 1,000 people trained

The largest cybersecurity meeting in Gipuzkoa will begin at 9.15 a.m. with the intervention of the general deputy, Eider Mendoza, who will be followed by the general director of ZIUR, María Penilla, who will explain the center's new strategy. In the four years that the center has been at the service of the Gipuzkoan industry, it has offered cybersecurity workshops that have been attended by more than 300 people; has held more than 50 sessions with Local Development Agencies and business associations in which more than 700 people have participated; it has carried out 22 projects with 115 companies and has advised around 140 companies from its technical department.

After Penilla, it will be the turn of the presentation by the Director of Information Security, Operations Management and Global Cybersecurity Management of Microsoft, Elena García Díez, who will explain the importance of adopting Artificial Intelligence solutions in companies and the strategy that her company follows. Later, a first round table will be held entitled 'How I evaluated and improved the level of cybersecurity in the design of my industrial product', in which four manufacturers from the machine tool sector, Fagor Automation, Ibarmia, Soraluce (Danobatgroup) and Loire Gestamp, will present their experience in the cybersecurity evaluation process of their product, based on the ZIUR methodology.

The second round table, ‘European NIS2 Directive, how to apply it in my organisation?’, will focus on legal questions, recommendations and good practices for the application of this European regulation and will be offered by multidisciplinary experts in this field. The closing of the day will be given by the general director of Strategic Projects of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Koldo Peciña.
