ZIUR trains ten students from Urola Garaia in cyber incident management

ZIUR welcomes students from UGLE School of Zumarraga.

Students from the first graduating class of the Industrial Cybersecurity Specialization program at Urola Garaiko Lanbide Eskola (UGLE) visited ZIUR's facilities to participate in a theoretical and practical session on industrial cybersecurity. The students from the Zumarraga-based educational center learned firsthand about the main current challenges in cybersecurity, the most common types of threats in industrial environments, and the fundamental principles of managing cyber incidents in industrial settings.

To this end, Iñaki Torrecilla, ICS Security Architect at ZIUR, and Markel Gómez, cybersecurity analyst, demonstrated how to structure an effective incident response, including the key phases of the action protocol and the importance of communication and information logging. They also provided training on crisis management and the role of the response committee.

Following the theoretical portion, the students participated in several interactive exercises to put their newly acquired knowledge of cyber incident management into practice in an industrial environment, using the board game ‘Kaspersky Interactive Protection Simulation (KIPS)’. Specifically, they implemented a cybersecurity strategy in a simulation of an industrial plant under cyberattack, with the goal of maintaining business continuity. This gamified activity allowed them to experience decision-making in realistic situations.

ZIUR's objective with these sessions is to contribute to the development of professional talent in cybersecurity, offering students a broader perspective on the field and sharing the realities of industrial companies in the region in this area. Among the educational partners with whom ZIUR conducts regular training activities are the UGLE vocational training center featured in this session, the SEIM Computer Science Studies Center, Zubiri Manteo, Easo Politeknikoa, the College of Engineers, Armería Eskola, Izarraitz LH, the Lea-Artibai Vocational Training Center, Mondragon University, and the University of the Basque Country (EHU).

Regarding the latter, it is worth mentioning the agreement between the cybersecurity center and the EHU, as well as the ZIUR Cybersecurity Business Classroom. This classroom aims to enhance the skills of faculty, researchers, and students at the Basque public university through innovation, knowledge generation and transformation, networking, and project promotion and management.
