ZIUR strengthens industrial cybersecurity knowledge of future professionals in the Lea-Artibai region

ZIUR trains students specializing in cybersecurity in OT environments in cyber incident management

ZIUR hosted students from the Lea-Artibai Vocational Training course on ‘Cybersecurity in Operational Technology Environments’. The center offered a theoretical and practical session, emphasizing the importance of establishing an effective cybersecurity strategy to combat attacks and security breaches, as well as the key elements for effective cyber incident management.

Iñaki Torrecilla, ICS Security Architect at ZIUR, and Markel Gómez, cybersecurity analyst, explained the main principles of cyber incident management in industrial environments, highlighting the differences between managing an attack in an industrial (OT) environment compared to one in an IT environment.

To put their shared knowledge into practice, ZIUR invited students to participate in a competition using the board game ‘Kaspersky Interactive Protection Simulation (KIPS),’ which simulated a cyber incident at a water treatment plant.

During the activity, the students were divided into three teams and, in parallel, created and implemented a security strategy to keep the plant operational. Among other things, they learned to respond to cybersecurity events by choosing proactive and reactive measures, such as conducting a security audit or acquiring endpoint protection solutions.
