ZIUR continues working to bring the business world closer to industrial cybersecurity students
The center trains Lea-Artibai students in cyber-incident management
ZIUR, the Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Center, hosted students from the Lea-Artibai Vocational Training Center's Master's Degree in Industrial Cybersecurity at its facilities. The program aimed to share the cybersecurity reality of industrial companies in the region, as well as the importance of establishing a cybersecurity strategy in companies to address attacks and security breaches.
Iñaki Torrecilla, ICS Security Architect at ZIUR, and Markel Gómez, cybersecurity analyst, explained the main fundamentals of cyber-incident management in industrial environments, especially the differences between managing an attack in an industrial environment (OT) and a crisis in an IT environment. To improve their cybersecurity knowledge in a simple and fun way, the students participated in a hands-on session on March 19th. ZIUR used the Kaspersky Interactive Protection Simulation (KIPS) board game from Kaspersky Lab Spain to simulate a cyber incident at a water treatment plant.
During the session, the students were divided into two teams and, in parallel, developed and implemented a security strategy to keep the plant operational. Among other aspects, they learned how to respond to cybersecurity events by choosing proactive and reactive measures, such as conducting a security audit or acquiring endpoint protection solutions.
