ZIUR and the CCI train more than 80 Gipuzkoan SMEs in NIS2

The series of workshops aimed to prepare the industrial fabric for the recent entry into force of this European directive

ZIUR, the Industrial Cybersecurity Centre of Gipuzkoa, and the Industrial Cybersecurity Centre (CCI) held a practical workshop on the European cybersecurity directive NIS2 on 11 February, which was attended by a record number of more than 80 SMEs in the territory. This was the second session on this topic given by both entities, which signed a collaboration agreement in 2019.

The Gipuzkoan centre has been working for 2 years on the accompaniment and awareness of this new European regulation, which aims to strengthen cybersecurity throughout Europe, and establishes minimum risk management requirements for essential sectors, as well as stricter measures to protect critical infrastructures and improve resilience against cyberattacks.

The objective of these two sessions, held in January and February, was to inform companies of the implications and obligations they must comply with in terms of cybersecurity. In the first workshop, the general manager of ZIUR, María Penilla, explained the requirements and repercussions of NIS2 and the optimal strategic management of cybersecurity risk. In the second session, Juan Miguel Pulpillo Fernández, a legal compliance expert at CCI, and José Valiente Pérez, general manager of this centre, presented a use case on the implementation of NIS2.

In this sense, companies had the opportunity to learn first-hand how to apply this directive in industrial environments and how to improve the cybersecurity of organisations through a practical exercise. In addition, they were able to resolve doubts about the application of NIS2 in specific environments.

The alliance between ZIUR, belonging to the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, and the CCI allows both entities to share strategies, develop joint actions and add capabilities in the face of, for example, this new regulation to help SMEs ensure compliance.

Virtual Assistant for questions about NIS2

One of ZIUR's objectives is to help companies in Guipuzcoa to be prepared for the changes that will be produced by new regulations, such as the entry into force of NIS2, CRA and IEC 62443. The centre, in addition to organising awareness days in this area, has also developed tools in this regard.

In this regard, the Foundation has an AI virtual assistant, available on its website, aimed at resolving questions about the NIS2 regulations. Companies can consult how to implement risk management measures or how to comply with notification obligations in critical sectors.
