ZIUR strengthens its support for the business community in response to new cybersecurity regulatory requirements

The foundation has collaborated with the SPRI Group in two sector-specific workshops on European cybersecurity regulations and has presented the programmes and tools that the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa makes available to companies to facilitate their adaptation

ZIUR, the Industrial Cybersecurity Centre of Gipuzkoa, has participated this month in two workshops organised by the SPRI Group to bring the main cybersecurity regulatory developments closer to the Basque business community and help companies prepare for an increasingly demanding regulatory landscape.

The events, organised in collaboration with Cybasque, the Basque Cluster Organisations (ODCs) and several leading companies from each sector, are part of the Basque Cybersecurity Tables project and were aimed at companies in the aerospace, healthcare and construction sectors.

The workshops addressed the impact of regulatory frameworks such as the NIS2 Directive, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), the National Security Framework (ENS) and the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). These regulations will shape organisations' roadmaps in the coming years and place cybersecurity as a strategic element for competitiveness and business resilience.

Prior to the events, participating companies had the opportunity to carry out a preliminary assessment through a questionnaire designed to understand their cybersecurity status, identify the regulations that apply to them and determine the steps needed to move towards compliance. The results of this analysis served as the starting point for highly practical sessions in which experts from SPRI, Cybasque, ZIUR, Seinale, Oesia and Cybertix explored the main regulatory frameworks and the support measures available to companies.

Representing ZIUR, its General Director, María Penilla, presented the main frameworks linked to the new regulations, provided an overview of the current cybersecurity situation in different industrial sectors and introduced the various tools, programmes and support schemes that the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa makes available to companies.

Throughout the sessions, Penilla stressed the need for organisations to start preparing now for an increasingly demanding regulatory scenario in which cybersecurity is no longer an ancillary element but has become an integral part of the design and lifecycle of connected products and services.

The first workshop, held on 1 June in collaboration with the Hegan cluster, was entitled "Roadmap for the adoption of NIS2 and CRA in the aerospace sector". It brought together professionals and companies from the sector to discuss measures aimed at strengthening cybersecurity and facilitating alignment with European and regional policies and initiatives.

On 3 June, the facilities of the Basque Health Cluster hosted the session "Cybersecurity in the design of medical devices: integration of MDR, ENS and CRA". The event was aimed at medical technology manufacturers, public sector suppliers and technology companies, with the objective of strengthening their cybersecurity capabilities and facilitating their adaptation to new European regulatory requirements.

These initiatives complement the different awareness-raising, training and advisory activities that ZIUR has been developing in recent months to help companies in Gipuzkoa understand the impact of emerging regulations such as the Cyber Resilience Act and anticipate their requirements. Among these initiatives is the ZIUR Acceleration Programme, promoted by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, a pioneering initiative designed to facilitate the assessment of connected products and support companies in adapting to the new European regulatory framework.

Through this work, ZIUR continues to consolidate its position as a leading organisation in promoting industrial cybersecurity and preparing the business community for European regulatory changes, helping companies in Gipuzkoa face regulatory challenges with greater confidence and strengthen their competitiveness in an increasingly digital and demanding environment.
