ZIUR trains 15 students from the Donostialdea region in cyber incident management
The Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Center (ZIUR) hosts students from the SEIM study center in Donostia for a hands-on training session
The Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Center (ZIUR) hosted a dozen students from the Higher Level Vocational Training Program in Networked Computer Systems Administration (ASIR) at the SEIM computer science center in San Sebastián. During their visit, the students participated in a hands-on workshop focused on understanding the main current challenges in industrial cybersecurity and training them in managing cyber incidents in production environments.
The training was led by Iñaki Torrecilla, ICS Security Architect at ZIUR, and Markel Gómez, a cybersecurity analyst. Both professionals gave a presentation on the convergence of IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology), as well as the essential principles for structuring an effective incident response. The session covered the different phases of the response protocol, the importance of information logging, internal communication, and the role of the crisis response committee.
Following the theoretical portion, the students participated in several practical exercises based on the Kaspersky Interactive Protection Simulation (KIPS) game. Through this tool, they had the opportunity to make decisions in a simulated industrial environment under attack, applying a cybersecurity strategy aimed at ensuring the business continuity of a water supply plant. This gamified methodology allowed them to experience how an incident is managed in real time and understand the impact of each decision.
With initiatives like this, ZIUR seeks to promote the development of specialized cybersecurity talent, bringing students closer to the realities of industrial companies in the region and reinforcing their practical training. The center regularly collaborates with numerous educational institutions, including SEIM, UGLE, Zubiri Manteo, Easo Politeknikoa, the College of Engineers, Armería Eskola, Izarraitz LH, Lea-Artibai, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, and the University of the Basque Country (EHU), among others.
In the specific case of SEIM, ZIUR has also provided training in previous years to students of the private Master's Degree in Cybersecurity Expertise, thus reinforcing its commitment to training future professionals in the sector.
