ZIUR offers Andra Mari students the keys to respond effectively to a cyber incident

The center tests around twenty students from Galdakao with a training cyber simulation

ZIUR, the Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Center, visited the Andra Mari Vocational Training Center in Galdakao to provide training to students of the Master's Specialization in Cybersecurity. The objective of this morning's visit was to offer a theoretical and practical session focused on fundamental aspects of cybersecurity in OT environments.

The session included presentations by Iñaki Torrecilla, ICS Security Architect at ZIUR, and Markel Gómez, a cybersecurity analyst at the center. Both delved into cybersecurity applied to OT environments and crisis management, offering the master's students a detailed overview of the essential elements in this field.

Following the theoretical portion, the students participated in a gamified cyber incident simulation, designed to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice. Through the KIPS simulation game, developed by Kaspersky Lab, students worked on implementing a cybersecurity strategy at a drinking water treatment plant. During the exercise, they had to respond to various events, selecting proactive and reactive measures such as security audits or the acquisition of endpoint protection solutions.

This allowed students to confront a realistic digital threat scenario and better understand how cyber incidents are managed in critical industrial infrastructures, such as a water treatment plant. Furthermore, the experience served to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity in connected industrial systems and the essential collaboration between education, research, and companies specializing in the sector.

With initiatives like this, ZIUR continues to promote the development of specialized cybersecurity talent, bringing students closer to the realities of industrial environments in the region and reinforcing their practical training. The center maintains an active collaboration with numerous educational entities, including SEIM, UGLE, Zubiri Manteo, Easo Politeknikoa, College of Engineers, Armería Eskola, Izarraitz LH, Lea-Artibai, Mondragon Unibertsitatea and the EHU, among others.
