ZIUR discusses the opportunities and challenges of using AI in machine-tool manufacturing at 'CECIMO Spring Meetings 2025'

The Foundation participated in this AFM Cluster's event alongside more than 50 executives from some of the most important corporations in the European industry

ZIUR participated today, June 16, in 'CECIMO Spring Meetings 2025', a meeting held in San Sebastián on the occasion of the general assembly of the European Machine Tool Association, which includes AFM Cluster.

Presidents and CEOs of leading companies such as Fastems, GF Machining Solutions, Hermle, Marposs, StarragTornos, Ficep, Schneeberger, Trumpf, WFL Millturn Technologies, Renishaw, Dimeco, Loire Gestamp, Fagor Automation, and Soraluce, among others, along with the fifteen European associations that make up CECIMO, met in the capital of Gipuzkoa to discuss the challenges facing European machine tool and advanced manufacturing technology manufacturers and to design a common strategy.

The CEO of ZIUR, María Penilla, participated in a roundtable discussion entitled "AI in Manufacturing." Penilla discussed the meeting with Laura Marrón, CEO of BAIC-Basque Artificial Intelligence Centre; Fernando Sáenz, CEO of Savvy Data Systems; David González, Commercial Director of SORALUCE S. Coop; and Vincenzo Belletti, Director of EU Public Affairs at CECIMO.

The session explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on the manufacturing sector. Among other topics, they discussed how AI-based technologies are revolutionizing production processes, from predictive maintenance and quality control to supply chain optimization and intelligent automation. The discussion revolved around real-world applications, key challenges, and the future potential of AI to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and drive innovation in manufacturing. Attendees also learned how companies can integrate AI solutions to remain competitive in an increasingly digital world.

The event featured a full program of strategic presentations, technology presentations, and collaborative discussion spaces. The institutional opening was led by José Pérez Berdud, president of AFM Cluster; François Duval, president of CECIMO; and the Deputy for Economic Promotion and Strategic Projects of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Unai Andueza, who highlighted the key role of the European machine tool industry in digitalization, energy transition, and global competitiveness.
