ZIUR shares with SMEs the importance of having a good disaster recovery strategy
Its director, María Penilla, demonstrated how industrial companies approach disaster recovery processes
ZIUR participated this Wednesday, March 2, in a theoretical and practical workshop on "Disaster Recovery," organized by Bullhost Cloud Services in collaboration with the Basque Country Technology Park and Veeam Software. The objective of this meeting, in which the SPRI Group also participated, was to show companies how to prepare a Disaster Recovery Plan and how to evaluate mechanisms that contribute to ensuring business continuity. To this end, two real-life cyber disaster scenarios were simulated, which could affect local businesses.
Attacks on SMEs have increased by 50% in the last year, and 60% of those affected close within six months of the incident. While zero risk doesn't exist, a recovery plan allows for a quick and agile response in the event of a cyberattack, reducing the impact on the business.
Considering that 47% of companies lack a formal cyberattack response plan, ZIUR Director María Penilla emphasized the importance of having a good disaster recovery strategy, as it "increases organizational resilience" to enable them to "recover more quickly and efficiently." She also warned about new regulations coming from Europe and detailed the new cybersecurity grant launched by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.
In addition, Guillermo Unamuno, Head of Smart&Cyber at Grupo SPRI, presented support tools for companies in the Basque Country aimed at improving their cybersecurity capabilities and adapting to new regulatory developments.
Bullhost, for its part, conducted a simulation with several scenarios to recover operations after an incident, addressing cybersecurity from the perspective of availability and information governance. To this end, Jon Urionaguena and Leonardo Martín, experts at this cybersecurity company, presented two practical disaster recovery scenarios, presenting on-premises architecture and daily operations and performing failover against the provider, simulating the disaster and the execution of the plan.
