The ZIUR Acceleration Program arrives at the 33rd edition of BIEMH, thanks to the Gipuzkoa industrial cybersecurity center
María Penilla, director of ZIUR, shared this initiative led by the Foundation with the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa for compliance with the CRA (Regulatory Action Plan), at a cybersecurity conference aimed at machine tool manufacturers
ZIUR, the Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Center, participated in the cybersecurity conference series organized by Orbik Cybersecurity at the 33rd Machine Tool Biennial (BIEMH). María Penilla, the center's director, traveled to Barakaldo to discuss, along with professionals from AFM Cluster, Grupo Spri, and Mondragon University, the new challenges facing the industrial sector with the arrival of the new European cybersecurity regulatory framework.
The event, held at the BEC (Bilbao Exhibition Centre), brought together leading associations, institutions, and companies from the sector, who shared their perspectives on how to address product cybersecurity and cybersecurity regulations in a more strategic, efficient, and industry-aligned way. Penilla participated in the roundtable discussion "Product Cybersecurity in Machine Tools: Turning Awareness into Action," where he discussed the CRA (Cybersecurity Reduction Act) alongside industry experts such as Jon Arregui, Head of Cybersecurity at AFM Cluster; Guillermo Unamuno, Head of Smart & Cyber at Grupo SPRI; and Urko Zurutuza, an expert in data analysis and cybersecurity research at Mondragon Unibertsitatea. Jon Ander Agirretxu, Laboratory Manager at Orbik Cybersecurity, moderated the discussion.
During her presentation, the ZIUR expert offered her perspective on the regulatory framework, warning companies that “non-compliance with the CRA carries serious risks, both economic and operational, but adapting to this law will be a fundamental factor in standing out from the competition.” Regarding CRA compliance, María presented the 'ZIUR Acceleration Program' alongside the aforementioned group of experts from collaborating entities of the program.
The objective of the initiative, led by ZIUR in conjunction with the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, is to help companies that manufacture connected products comply with the CRA. “We encourage you to participate in this Acceleration Program, which, in addition to promoting certification activities, training workshops, and sector-specific regulatory advice, plans to include a cybersecurity assessment service for connected products developed in Gipuzkoa, as well as audits of industrial components and a technical vulnerability management service,” stated Penilla.
This panel discussion was part of the dynamic workshop “Product Cybersecurity Compliance Challenges for the Machine Tool Sector,” in which experts addressed the machine tool design, manufacturing, and integrating companies in attendance. They offered their insights on new regulatory compliance obligations, the impact of these regulations on business and the supply chain, and how companies should prepare for an increasingly demanding regulatory environment. The event concluded with a presentation of new solutions and a networking session.
