Gipuzkoa joins forces in 'IndustrySec2025' to strengthen its cybersecurity and ensure the competitiveness of its industrial fabric

Gipuzkoa's largest industrial cybersecurity event will be held tomorrow, Thursday, at Ficoba, with the participation of Marc Rivero from Kaspersky.

More than 200 people gathered today at Ficoba for the fifth edition of the largest cybersecurity event in the region, organized by ZIUR and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

More than 200 people gathered today for the fifth edition of Gipuzkoa IndustrySec, the largest industrial cybersecurity event in the region, held at Ficoba (Irun) under the slogan "The strength of unity: collaboration as the driving force of the ecosystem." The event, attended by companies, experts in this field, technology and knowledge centers, and institutions, served to highlight the strategic importance of cybersecurity in maintaining the competitiveness of Gipuzkoa's industry.

The Deputy General of Gipuzkoa, Eider Mendoza, highlighted the work carried out in this area by the ZIUR Industrial Cybersecurity Center, promoted by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa six years ago. A pioneering initiative that has successfully placed the region at the forefront of digital protection, anticipating the global challenge posed by cybersecurity. "The creation of this laboratory demonstrates that the Provincial Council's goal is to support our industry by sharing knowledge, offering training, creating networks, and promoting collaboration," she noted.

"ZIUR was born with the mission of developing a space for collaboration and innovation in the field of industrial cybersecurity in our region, serving our companies and the cybersecurity sector," Mendoza recalled at the opening of Gipuzkoa IndustrySec.

Following her remarks, ZIUR's general director, María Penilla, highlighted the importance of protecting ourselves against the rise in attacks, which are becoming increasingly sophisticated and effective. In Spain alone, cyber incidents have grown by 66% in the last year, and ransomware attacks by 126%, reaching a total of 2,289 reported attacks. Furthermore, the manufacturing industry has been the most attacked sector worldwide for the past three years, representing 25.7% of the total. This means that costs to the industry are increasing at a rate of 125% annually. “All of this should make us reflect on the importance of protecting ourselves and how crucial it is that we unite and collaborate to successfully address this challenge,” Penilla stated.

Marc Rivero López, a renowned specialist in cyberintelligence, geopolitics, and advanced threat analysis, delivered the keynote address entitled “Threat Intelligence in the Industrial Sector: The Importance of Knowing Your Enemy.” Rivero highlighted that 21.9% of ICS (Industrial Control Systems) systems suffered attack attempts in the second quarter of 2025, according to Kaspersky, a global leader in cybersecurity services, and more than 11,600 malware families were detected. For this reason, he emphasized the importance of having a strategic vision in this area to respond quickly to cyberattacks and increase companies' resilience.

Gipuzkoa IndustrySec also included two roundtable discussions with the participation of Gipuzkoa companies and cybersecurity leaders. In the first, moderated by Guillermo Unamuno of the SPRI Group, representatives from Masermic, Bexen Cardio, and Connect Group shared their views on the topic of "Cybersecurity Assessment of Industrial Products." This was followed by another roundtable discussion on "CISO Management in Industry," comprised of representatives from Betapack, Venanpri Group (Bellota Herramientas), and Grupo Gourmet Okin, moderated by the CEO of ZIUR.

The closing remarks at this annual event were given by Koldo Peciña, Director of Strategic Projects for the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, who emphasized that this congress is "a great opportunity to learn about the latest trends and challenges from leading experts." "It allows us to listen, analyze, and learn from the projects our industry and companies are developing and to reflect together on the challenges that await us in the future," Andueza stated. "Industrial cybersecurity is not a luxury; it is an essential condition for remaining strong as a region," he emphasized at this latest edition of Gipuzkoa IndustrySec.
