Gipuzkoa and Japan explore new avenues of collaboration in industrial cybersecurity and technological innovation
The meeting held at ZIUR allowed for the sharing of strategies in industrial cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, as well as the analysis of common challenges to strengthen the competitiveness of the business fabric
The Japanese Ambassador, Hiroshi Yamauchi, visited the headquarters of ZIUR, Gipuzkoa's Industrial Cybersecurity Center, today, where he held a working meeting with the Deputy General of Gipuzkoa, Eider Mendoza; the Deputy for Economic Promotion and Strategic Projects, Unai Andueza; the Director of Strategic Projects, Koldo Peciña; and the Director of ZIUR, María Penilla.
The meeting served to share the strategy that Gipuzkoa is promoting to strengthen the region's capabilities in areas such as industrial cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies, as well as to learn about the initiatives that Japan is developing in these fields.
During the meeting, both delegations exchanged experiences on public policies supporting businesses, the challenges of protecting industry in a context of increasing digitalization, and the impact of artificial intelligence on cybersecurity. They also had the opportunity to compare the different approaches Japan and Gipuzkoa are taking to these challenges, sharing their respective models of action and analyzing potential areas for future collaboration.
The Deputy General of Gipuzkoa, Eider Mendoza, emphasized that “the visit of the Japanese ambassador reflects the international interest that the strategy we are developing in Gipuzkoa is generating. That a leading country in innovation and technology wants to learn firsthand about our model and explore possible avenues for collaboration reaffirms our belief that we are on the right track.”
Mendoza added that “our commitment to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies responds to a very clear objective: to protect the competitiveness of our companies, strengthen the resilience of our industrial fabric, and generate new development opportunities for Gipuzkoa.”
For her part, ZIUR Director María Penilla stated that “this visit represents an excellent opportunity to share Gipuzkoa’s experience in industrial cybersecurity and showcase a model based on collaboration between institutions, companies, and knowledge providers.”
Penilla emphasized that “cybersecurity has become a strategic element for industrial competitiveness. At ZIUR, we work to support companies in developing their capabilities, anticipating new risks, and consolidating an innovative ecosystem connected with international benchmarks such as Japan.”
