ZIUR trains nearly 20 students from the University of the Basque Country (EHU) in crisis management

The center instructs students on how to apply industrial cybersecurity strategies in a simulated environment

ZIUR, the Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Center, hosted second-year students from the Master's Program in Embedded Systems Engineering at the University of the Basque Country (EHU). The purpose of the visit was to participate in a theoretical and practical workshop focused on the fundamental aspects of cybersecurity in OT environments.

The session featured presentations by Iñaki Torrecilla, ICS Security Architect at ZIUR, and Markel Gómez, a cybersecurity analyst at the center. They delved into cybersecurity applied to OT environments and crisis management, providing the students from the Faculty of Computer Science with a detailed overview of the essential elements in this field.

Following the theoretical portion, the students participated in a gamified cyber incident simulation, designed to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice. Using the KIPS simulation game, developed by Kaspersky, the students worked on implementing a cybersecurity strategy at a drinking water treatment plant. During the exercise, they had to respond to various events, selecting proactive and reactive measures such as security audits or the acquisition of endpoint protection solutions.

With initiatives like this, ZIUR continues to promote the development of specialized cybersecurity talent, bringing students closer to the realities of the region's industrial environments and reinforcing their practical training. The center maintains active collaborations with numerous educational institutions, including SEIM, UGLE, Zubiri Manteo, Easo Politeknikoa, the College of Engineers, Armería Eskola, Izarraitz LH, Lea-Artibai, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, and the University of the Basque Country (EHU), among others.

Regarding the latter, the existing agreement between ZIUR and the University of the Basque Country (EHU) for the operation of the ZIUR Cybersecurity Business Classroom stands out. Its purpose is to improve the skills of faculty, researchers, and students at the Basque public university. Through this joint initiative, innovation, knowledge generation and transfer, networking, and the development of cybersecurity-related projects are promoted.
