Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa strengthens the cybersecurity in companies with a new €400,000 grant

Since 2018, the Provincial Council has awarded more than €3 million in cybersecurity grants.

The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has launched a new grant application process to strengthen the cybersecurity of businesses in the region. Specifically, within the framework of the "Digital Gipuzkoa" program, the Department of Economic Promotion and Strategic Projects has approved grants worth €400,000 to ensure that organizations and their products are cybersecure and adapt to new European regulations.

This new grant application process aims to ensure the region's competitiveness by minimizing the impact of cyberattacks and the problems associated with cybersecurity, data privacy, and security. This reality, identified within the framework of 'Etorkizuna Eraikiz', led the Provincial Council to create ZIUR, the Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Center, with which these grants were designed. The previous call, for €360,000, benefited a total of 65 companies in the region. In total, since 2018, the Provincial Council has allocated more than €3 million in cybersecurity aid to companies in the region.

The current call, published in the Official Gazette of Gipuzkoa on March 14, includes two lines: €265,000 for cybersecurity for companies in Gipuzkoa and €135,000 for the manufacture of cybersecure industrial products. Regarding the former, funding will be provided for hardware/software situational diagnoses, the drafting of cybersecurity plans, and support in their deployment and execution, among other projects. This will also include work to adapt to new European regulations and obtain the certifications that will come into force in 2026 in the EU. An additional 15% will also be awarded to projects that have completed a self-diagnosis analysis in accordance with the methodology promoted by ZIUR, available on the center's website.

The €135,000 grant for the "Cybersecure Industrial Product" line aims to promote the development and design of devices that implement cybersecurity from the outset, as well as to provide industry with the opportunity to test the security of their products in specialized laboratories. In fact, to be eligible for this call, a pre-diagnosis of the product must be performed in ZIUR's laboratories. The application period for these grants is now open and will close on September 16 for the "Cybersecurity in Gipuzkoa Companies" line. The "Cybersecure Industrial Product" line will close on April 23, 2025.
